ИНТЕНСИВНАЯ ТЕРАПИЯ
О происхождении интенсивной терапии существуют разные мнения. В «Истории реаниматологии в Британии» (так назывался раздел проекта фонда Wellcome Trust «Медицина ХХ века: свидетельства очевидцев») подробно описаны и иные факты, способствовавшие возникновению нового медицинского направления, помимо событий в Копенгагене 1953 года. И все же усилия Бьёрна Ибсена в деле создания масштабной и хорошо организованной системы ухода за пациентами с тяжелыми заболеваниями представляются ключевыми.
Об эпидемии, захлестнувшей остров Маврикий, я ничего не знал, пока не приступил к работе над этой книгой. Расспрашивая отца о жизни в рыбацкой деревушке Гран-Гоб, я неожиданно узнал много интересного о собственной семье, о папином детстве и о том, как пострадала от полиомиелита наша семья.
Здесь я хочу сказать спасибо доктору Николасу Хершу, консультанту-анестезиологу Государственной клиники неврологии и нейрохирургии и моему наставнику, сумевшему заразить меня своим искренним интересом и увлеченностью историей анестезиологии и реаниматологии.
С Чарльзом Гомерсдоллом я познакомился, когда мы оба читали лекции по курсу «Ликвидация последствий стихийных бедствий» в Европейском обществе реаниматологии. Об эпидемии атипичной пневмонии большинство клиницистов знали понаслышке или из научных статей. Число смертей по всему миру было, к счастью, невелико — во многом благодаря усилиям Карло Урбани и его коллег. Однако эта статистика несколько принижает их подвиг, при том что основной удар эпидемии по всему миру тогда приняла на себя буквально горстка отделений интенсивной терапии. Я благодарен профессору Гомерсдоллу за то, что он не пожалел времени на встречу со мной и на рассказ об этих событиях.
